So many ways to help homebound New Mexicans...

Meals on Wheels appreciates everything you do and anything you can do going forward. Every gift, no matter how small, means another frail elderly or disabled person will receive nutritious meals.

Monetary Donations:

A gift of any size helps us to continue to serve those most vulnerable in our community and keep the cost of our meals very expensive, but did you know that:
  • A gift of $30 will feed someone for a week
  • $125 provides meals to someone for a month
  • $1500 will feed someone 5 days a week for an entire year

Your charitable gift can be made to honor a family member, business associate, or friend, or as a lasting tribute to the memory of someone special.

You can also designate your gift to help feed someone in our Low Income Medical Meal Program. We have created this program for those below the poverty level who require special therapeutic meals due to a health condition. This is a free meal program made possible only through donations and grants. Our program is the only one of its kind in the Albuquerque Community.

There are also a variety of charitable instruments available that we can tailor to your giving situation. These types of gifts allow you to leave a wonderful legacy. Such as:

  • Bequest by Will allows you to designate a gift or a portion of your estate to Meals on Wheels. In some cases there is a substantial reduction in federal gift and estate taxes.
  • Gifts of Life Insurance can be assigned to Meals on Wheels
  • Charitable Lead Trust places cash or property into a trust that pays a fixed amount to Meals on Wheels for the number of years you select. Once the period ends, the assets held by the trust are transferred to the beneficiaries you name. In some cases you will receive a substantial reduction in federal gift and estate taxes.
  • Charitable Remainder Trust places cash or property in a trust that pays annual income to you (or another named beneficiary) for life. After your death, the remainder of the trust transfers to Meals on Wheels. You will receive income tax benefits the year you establish your trust.

Your generous tax deductible cash donations can be made by check by mailing to:

Leaving a Legacy for Those to Come

Meals on Wheels has been truly blessed by the generous people who have helped feed so many in our community this last year. Without your help we could not do what we do – feed more than 500 people daily throughout our Albuquerque community. It takes all of us – individuals, businesses and organizations – freely giving our time and our money to make what we do possible.

As we continue to see an increase in the need for our services, we are preparing for the future by building an endowment fund. Endowment income provides key benefits to an organization such as ours. Fundraising is, at best, difficult especially in the current economic climate and these are variables that we cannot control. Income from an endowment can effectively smooth out the rough spots in a fiscal year, give us needed capital to grow our program, or even fund new initiatives.

That is why we are very proud that in 2009 the MOW Board of Directors agreed to establish an endowment fund with the Albuquerque Community Foundation. The Community Foundation has a detailed investment policy to produce long-term growth of the funds administered, and their Investment Committee monitors fund performance. Currently, they manage 80 organization endowment funds for Albuquerque nonprofits within their Philanthropy Central program. Economies of scale result in more favorable returns and more reasonable management fees. The Community Foundation will provide all administrative support related to our fund including performance reports.

A fund with the Community Foundation shows donors that we are serious about long-term financial security, and the fund’s permanence is insured.
