History:
MOW was established in 1971 by members of the DARE Circle at Immanuel
Presbyterian Church, responding to a challenge to help prevent people
from prematurely entering nursing homes or long-term care. Since 1972, Albuquerque Meals on
Wheels (MOW) has served over 2 million meals, has grown to provide a
variety of nutritional services, and has expanded its service area to
include more isolated areas by collaborating
with non-profit agencies throughout the state.
Currently:
Albuquerque Meals on Wheels (MOW) delivers
approximately 550 meals per day, totaling over 140,000 in 2007. Most importantly, MOW is the only
agency outside of hospitals and long-term care institutions with the
capacity to provide special-diet meals. Because today’s seniors
experience a variety of health concerns, MOW knows it is crucial to
provide nutrition appropriate for each senior’s medical condition.
What's New:
- Meals on Wheels has also re-opened its Deli at Northside
Presbyterian Hospital - open Monday - Friday, from 8 - 1:30
pm. All proceeds go
directly towards supporting the Mission of Albuquerque Meals on Wheels.
